Internships
Law in Action offers college students interested in a legal career a unique chance to have direct contact with the magistrate court criminal justice system. Usually 1-2 internships will be available at LIA each year.
Student interns are trained to interview detention center inmates and conduct follow up investigations toward the goal of obtaining early and safe release of pretrial detainees. Interns eventually will handle their own cases from interview to jail release.
LIA gives preference to students who can commit at least two consecutive semesters to the program.
With LIA’s current funding limitations all internships are unpaid positions, however, class credit might be available depending upon the requirements of individual college professors.
If you are interested in an LIA internship, contact the LIA director, Stephen J. Henry by mail (Law in Action, 406 Pettigru Street, Greenville, SC 29601), by phone (232-9700) or by email (sjhlaw@charter.net). Please send your resume and a short letter stating why you would like to be considered for an LIA intership.
