Time to Read Initiative
The Law in Action Jail Project
introduced its Time to Read Initiative, a book drive for the Greenville
County Detention Center, with the goal of putting at least 200
additional books into the hands of inmates over the course of several
months. We are happy to report that generous donations from the
community have allowed us to distribute more than 1700 books!
LIA continues to
seek donations of money and books to support this
initiative. Books can be new or used, but
they must be paperback and in good condition. The Detention Center
enforces a common sense censoring policy – no obscenity or extreme
violence (this includes True Crime books). With those exceptions, nearly
all other titles are acceptable: fiction or non-fiction, mystery or
romance, best-seller or classic. Response to date has been so positive
the Time to Read is being expanded to include other jail libraries in
the Upstate.

volunteering or would like more information, please contact the Jail
Project at 232-1330 or 232-9700.
